§ 99.630. General requirements.

  • The construction, maintenance and operation of all outside overhead and underground telephone, telegraph, electric light and power, and other electric wires of any kind in the city shall conform to Part 2 and grounding rules of the sixth edition of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), dealing with the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground lines as embodied in Handbook 81 issued November 1, 1961, by the National Bureau of Standards of the U.S. Department of Commerce, copies of which are on file in the offices of the city clerk and city engineer, and shall conform and be made to conform in all respects to the requirements and provisions of this article and Article V of this chapter. An agent of the city engineer herein named the inspector of outside electric wires and wiring shall enforce the provisions of such articles and the NESC rules, and shall inspect and reinspect all such outside overhead and underground electric wires, poles, cables, conduits, fixtures and apparatus and cause the same to be installed, constructed, placed, run, supported and guarded as required by this Code; and so as not to cause fires or accidents or endanger life or property.
