§ 51.90. Openings to be sealed, pilot lights extinguished.

  • All crevices, cracks, or openings in the building or portion thereof fumigated leading to the outer air or into adjoining buildings shall be effectively sealed so as to prevent the escape of gas during the process of fumigation. All doors through which access to the building or portion thereof being fumigated may be had shall be locked or fastened with a multiple tumbler lock or other mechanical device, approved by the chief of police, which will make it impossible for any person to enter the building during the period of fumigation. Interior window or door fastenings shall be closed, so that no person can enter the building through the same from the outside, and windows not having such mechanical fastenings shall be so closed and so secured and fastened that no person can enter from the outside of the building being fumigated. All gas appliances in the building or portions of the building to be fumigated containing a pilot light which might be extinguished by the fumigating gas shall be shut off during the period of fumigation.
