§ 14.60. Compensation of council members.

  • (a)  Salary established. Pursuant to authority given by Laws of Minnesota 1971, Chapter 744, and in accordance with the provisions thereof, the city council, prior to January 1 of each year, may by resolution fix the annual salary of each council member of the city.

    (b)

    Additional compensation. Any council member who is a member of a board or commission created by charter or statute and who receives compensation for such service shall pay such compensation into the city treasury. (Code 1960, As Amend., §§ 541.010, 541.020; 89-Or-130, § 1, 7-14-89)

    Editor's note— The salaries of the mayor and council members are established by resolution of the city council pursuant to Laws 1971, Ch. 744, which act was approved by the city council by resolution passed June 11, 1971, and became effective without the mayor's signature. Section 4 of said act provided as follows:

    "Sec. 4. CERTAIN INCOME TO BE DEPOSITED IN THE CITY TREASURY. The mayor and each alderman of the city of Minneapolis shall each month pay to the treasurer of the city of Minneapolis for deposit in the general fund of such city, all fees for attendance at meetings, or other compensation received by him from any board, commission or other body of which he may be a member or may serve because of his position either as mayor or an alderman of the city of Minneapolis."
