§ 1.30. Penalties.

  • (a) Generally. Every person convicted of a violation of any provisions of this Code, except as hereinafter qualified [in subsection (b) or expressly provided elsewhere in the Code,] shall be punished by a fine or by imprisonment, or both, not to exceed the maximum amounts as established by Minnesota law for the punishment of a misdemeanor offense. Each day's continuation of a violation shall constitute a separate offense.

    (b)

    Traffic code violations. Every person convicted of a violation of a provision of the traffic code, which covers the same subject for which a penalty is provided for in Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 169, shall be punished in accordance with the penalty provided for in said Chapter 169, with the following exceptions:

    (1)

    Every person convicted of a violation of section 478.1000, "winter parking outside special snow removal zones" or of section 478.1020, "winter parking in special snow removal zones," of this Code shall be punished by a fine of twenty-five dollars ($25.00).

    (2)

    Every person convicted of a violation of a provision of the traffic code, which regulates the standing or parking of vehicles, shall be punished by a fine of not more than one hundred dollars ($100.00), except that if such conviction is preceded by two (2) or more convictions within the immediately preceding twelve-month period, for violating those provisions of the traffic code regulating the standing or parking of vehicles, the provisions of this subparagraph (2) shall not apply.
