§ 486.20. Outside width.

  • The total outside width of any vehicle or the load thereon shall not exceed eight (8) feet, except that the outside width of a farm tractor shall not exceed twelve (12) feet, and except as otherwise provided in this section.

    The total outside width of a passenger motor bus, operated exclusively in the city, or contiguous cities, shall not exceed nine (9) feet. A passenger motor bus, not exceeding eight and one-half (8½) feet in width, may operate between the separated facilities of a college or university if part of the facilities are located within one of the foregoing areas and part are located outside but not more than five (5) miles from the area.

    The total outside width of loads of forest products when loaded crossways shall not exceed one hundred (100) inches, provided the load is securely bound with a chain attached to front and rear of the loading platform of the vehicle so as to hold the load securely in place.
